Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan’s southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, Since I’ve watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade I wanted to visit Petra. When we were in Jordan a visit to Petra was in our travel plans. Al Khazneh, or Treasury, in other words, is probably the most recognized and iconic part of Petra, but what it is worth knowing is that Petra is actually a massive place.
